When wanting to clean your beloved air fryer, there are some things you should avoid at all costs, as they could cause much more harm than you may think.

Do not use a metal scourer to clean your air fryer

Avoid using a metal scourer when wanting to clean your air fryer, no matter how dirty it is. This will more than likely scrape off the layer of non-stick coating on the appliance. This coating is extremely important as the air fryer solely relies on hot air as it does not use oil, therefore food will inevitably stick to the basket of the appliance. If this coating is removed during the cleaning process, your air fryer is likely to rust. This will ruin the look of the appliance, but more importantly, it will impact its performance and functionality.

Do not use metal utensils

Once again, this will damage the non-stick coating. Rather opt for the silicone utensils as they are more user-friendly and will not damage the coating.

Do not put the wet basket back

Letting the basket drip dry is not the way to go. You should simply use a dry tea towel to wipe off the excess water. Putting a damp basket back into the air fryer can cause damage, such as affecting the time it takes for your air fryer to heat up or damaging the internal components.

Do not submerge the air fryer in water

It is no secret that water and electricity do not go hand-in-hand. You should always disassemble your basket before washing so ensure that each separate part is properly cleaned.

Do clean your air fryer

If you continuously cook foods in your air fryer without cleaning it between cooks, you could risk setting off your smoke alarm as this will cause smoke, you will also experience an unpleasant odour. Ultimately, not cleaning your air fryer can lead to a fire hazard. Let’s be real, your air fryer is unlikely to suddenly burst into flames, however, it is never pleasant eating burnt bits. Allowing grease and crumbs to build up inside your air fryer will leave your components to gather bacteria, which can potentially lead to food poisoning. No one wants that!

Moral of the story, ALWAYS be cautious when cleaning your air fryer and ensure that you are doing so properly!
