Here’s something that will slow you up in the morning: piles of loose shoes that you have to paw through looking for a matched pair, or a table cluttered with stuff that’s camouflaging your keys. Stop being underprepared and overwhelmed in the morning by giving yourself a dedicated and organized place to store your stuff. You might just be able to get out the door faster.

For a simple drop-off zone in even the smallest of spaces, consider making a wooden storage ladder like this one from Francesca Stone on Design*Sponge. And you can also add hooks or a wall-mounted shelf above for coat organization.
If you prefer to keep things “out of sight, out of mind,” then look for a storage piece that fits your entry. You can use a mid-sized wardrobe or enclosed shelf to hide incoming shoe piles, with plenty of surface space for home decor or a basket for keys.
Create a custom storage area by re-purposing wooden crates. This arrangement from The Merrythought looks great while offering tons of extra storage. Add in a few baskets if you want to be able to hide your clutter.
For a more permanent solution, I give you the built-in shoe storage drawer from Lemon Thistle. What it lacks in surface space, it makes up for in concealment. This project works particularly well for split-levels where front door congestion is highly likely.
