Grey and Yellow for Springs (2024)

Spring’s light, airy and vibrant palette doesn’t exactly immediately make one think of Grey, but the truth is that Grey can be a really unexpected and versatile neutral for this lightest and clearest of palettes.

As a Spring, your version of Grey has a clarity and lightness, and even a touch of warmth (the tiniest hint of yellow – not enough to make the colour turn sludgy). Your grey should never weigh your outfit down, and is a million miles away from Charcoal or Slate. Pantone’s Ultimate Grey is a fraction flatter than your best version of Grey, but just needs lifting and brightening a tiny fraction in order to work for you. The good news is that Illuminating, that zingy vibrant yellow, is the perfect shade for you, with its light, bright and fresh feel. Try Canary Yellow for the version that’s perfect for you!

We always think of Springs as wearing bold, bright colours, and your Greys can certainly form the basis of an outfit which features a whole host of colour, Grey can also function as the base of an entirely neutral outfit, giving your Spring palette a new, elegant feel. I’ve shown an outfit with both below, to show you how versatile this most sensible of colours can be.
