Heck, I still wish for it every day!! Specifically in my office but it is a creative working space… it can be a mess when I am working in there.

There’s no need to break the bank to make your home look luxurious. With a few simple tips and tricks, you can give your home an expensive appearance without spending a fortune.

What makes a house feel cheap?

Avoiding a cheap feel in your home involves steering clear of lightweight or flimsy furniture, opting for a cohesive decor theme, and ensuring proper, warm lighting. Choose genuine materials over synthetic ones and embrace minimalism to avoid overcrowding.

Invest in storage solutions to keep clutter hidden and pay attention to details like quality hardware and unique artwork. It’s not about spending a fortune but making thoughtful choices that reflect your style and attention to detail.

What makes a house feel expensive?

Creating that luxurious vibe in your home doesn’t always require a hefty budget. It’s all about the details! Think about indulgent textures like velvet or faux fur, add some metallic accents for a touch of glam, and don’t underestimate the power of strategic lighting to set the mood. Mirrors can also make a space feel larger and more sophisticated.

Oh, and don’t forget a splash of greenery – a few well-placed plants can elevate the entire atmosphere. It’s the little things that turn a house into a high-end haven!

1. Flowers

Fresh flowers are always ideal. If you are like me and have a cat that loves to nibble and any fresh flower or plant you put in your house, finding good fake flowers can also work.

Flowers give off an organic feel that can brighten up a room. They add life to a room.

Flowers can complement or can be used as a focal point in a room.

Either way, putting floral bouquets in an elegant vase will class up your space giving it an expensive look like a luxury hotel.

2. Hang Curtains High

When hanging window treatments like curtains, it is important to hang them high. This will make your home look more expensive and give the illusion of a higher ceiling.

Curtains that are hung too low can make a room look smaller and more cramped.

To hang your curtains high, you will need to use curtain rods that are longer than standard rods.

You may also need to use extension brackets or ceiling mounts to raise the rod higher. If you are using a standard curtain rod, you can raise the rod by adding extra extensions to the bracket.

3. Paint Your Walls

As a renter, this is usually my first step when trying to make my apartment seem homey. Even just painting one wall with the right color or shade can depict the feeling of the room.

For example, my hand-painted stenciled Moroccan and grey accent wall changed the look of my bedroom when I was doing my January Makeover Challenge.

A fresh coat of grey can be an easy shade to paint your walls because it is very neutral and elegant. Make sure to pay attention to how color affects your mood and choose wisely.

4. Area Rugs

Area rugs are a great way to add some color and life to a room, as well as make it look more expensive. When choosing an area rug, it’s important to find one that is the right size for the room.

You don’t want it to be too small or too large, and you don’t want it to dwarf the furniture.

Another thing to consider is the type of rug.

There are several different types of rugs, each with its advantages and disadvantages.

A shag rug, for example, is very soft and can be a great choice for a bedroom, but it’s not very durable and can be difficult to clean.

A Persian rug, on the other hand, is very durable and can last for many years, but it’s also quite expensive.

When choosing an area rug, you need to think about what you’re looking for in a rug and what will work best in your home. If you’re looking for something that’s going to be durable and last for a long time, then a Persian rug is a good option.

If you’re looking for something that’s going to add some color and life to a room, then a shag rug might be a better choice.

Here is a similar rug to the one pictured below.
