La Vie Plant-Based Bacon review - the best vegan bacon? (2024)

Bacon lovers, facon enthusiasts, and sandwich munchers brace yourselves! I have found the holy grail of plant-based bacon. It is called La Vie Plant-Based Bacon and it is an alternative to smokey bacon rashers. Forget everything you thought you knew about meat-free bacon (like THIS Isn’t Bacon) because this stuff is next level. Let’s just say, my taste buds did a happy dance when I took my first bite.

These crispy vegan smokey bacon rashers completely wowed me. They taste great and the texture when cooked is really crispy and chewy. It is also a really versatile ingredient that works perfectly in a vegan fry-up, within a vegan carbonara, and on its own in a vegan bacon sarnie. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this plant-based bacon from La Vie to vegans and non-vegans alike!

Pros

  • The rashers have a really realistic texture
  • It isn’t another seitan product
  • They taste amazing

Cons

  • The rashers can be a bit flimsy

The rashers have a really realistic texture

La Vie’s Plant-Based Bacon has an incredibly realistic texture that is sure to impress even the most sceptical meat-eaters. It will even impress the vegans looking for a vegan bacon product that actually resembles some of the better qualities of pig’s bacon.

The strips have the perfect balance of chewiness and crispiness, making them really enjoyable to eat! It is much better than any other vegan bacon rasher that I’ve tried before, and I’ve tried pretty much all of them.

All in all, La Vie’s plant-based bacon is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a meat-free alternative that is both delicious and realistic. It is a perfect choice for vegetarians, vegans and those who are looking for plant-based options that will help them to eat fewer animals.

It isn’t another seitan product

One of the best things about La Vie’s plant-based bacon is that they don’t use any wheat-based ingredients like seitan, which is commonly used in many plant-based meat alternatives. This makes their product suitable for gluten-intolerant people, like me.

But please do note, that their packaging does state that it may contain traces of gluten which suggests it is manufactured in a factory alongside gluten-based products, making it unsuitable for coeliacs.

Personally, I find seitan-based bacon products set off my IBS, so I love that La Vie has created a really inclusive gluten-free vegan bacon alternative. Good quality gluten-free plant-based options are not always easy to find and it’s awesome that La Vie has taken the initiative to create a product that is safe and delicious for people with gluten sensitivities.

On top of the belly aches, I sometimes find that seitan-based products all taste very similar and that the texture is too bready, which is no surprise as they are made using wheat.

La Vie’s gluten-free Plant-Based Bacon is a great example of how plant-based meat alternatives can be delicious and nutritious without compromising taste and texture.

They taste amazing

La Vie’s Plant-Based Bacon is simply delicious. It has a smoky, savoury flavour that is sure to please even the most discerning bacon lover. But I’d hasten to add, the flavour is not just a mimicry of real bacon but a taste sensation of its own.

One of the great things about La Vie’s Plant-Based Bacon is that it can be used in a variety of different dishes, thanks to its really lovely taste! It’s delicious on its own, but it also adds a great smoky flavour to sandwiches, salads, and even pizzas. It’s a perfect addition to breakfast dishes like tofu scramble, and it’s a great topping for burgers and sandwiches (it is even used on Burger King’s vegan burger)

The taste of La Vie’s plant-based bacon is so good that it might even convert carnivores to plant-based options, fingers crossed! This product is a great example of how plant-based meat alternatives can be delicious and nutritious without compromising taste and texture. It’s a great option for vegetarians, vegans, and meat-eaters alike who are looking for a tasty plant-based alternative to traditional bacon.

My thoughts on La Vie’s Plant-Based Bacon

Overall, I truly believe that La Vie’s Plant-Based Bacon is a tasty and versatile product which makes a great addition to any meal. It is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a delicious and healthy plant-based option that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways.

The crispy and chewy texture makes it enjoyable to eat and the lovely smoky flavour will be sure to tantalise your tastebuds. And the best bit, no tummy ache-inducing seitan in sight!

Areas of improvement

No product is 100% perfect, but I’d say La Vie has gotten pretty close! That being said, I do sometimes find their rashers to be a little bit flimsy. This means they can sometimes tear slightly when moving them between the packaging to the frying pan. But if they do, this hardly affects the result!

Its thinness probably aids its light crispy texture, so it may be necessary.

Once you get used to handling this vegan bacon product it really won’t be an issue!

Review conclusion

In the history of plant-based bacon, La Vie has by far achieved the best texture of them all! I have found myself eating this on the regular, in vegan bacon sarnies, pasta dishes and on top of pizzas. It doesn’t hide away in a dish, it actually makes it.

So, if you are ready to be amazed by a vegan bacon product then I urge you to buy some for yourself!
