Interest in the Western New York supermarket chain Wegmanscontinues togrow. The announcement that a Wegmans is considering a location in a new area causes hysterics among the nation’s foodies. The chain was founded in 1916 in Rochester, New York and expanded to Syracuse and then Buffalo before establishing stores outside of the “Empire State.”If you are a fan of Wegmans, a trip to their Fairport Road store located in East Rochester is a MUST (Intersection of Fairport Road (Rt 31E) and Marsh Rd; Fairport/East Rochester.). Opened in 1958 and expanded in the 80s, this location is the OLDEST store in the chain. It retains much of its mid-century architectural charm including space-age roof design and retro interior details (pictures coming soon).
