Spring Decorating After Easter (1)

How do we decorate for Spring after Easter? Do we put all our spring decorations away and wait for Summer? Do we keep your Easter-inspired decor up until it’s time to decorate for summer? Knowing what decor looks fresh in our homes when the Easter bunny has come and gone and when Memorial Day Weekend seems too far off is the key to decorating this time of year. Here are some ideas for decorating our homes now that Easter is over and we have lots of pretty spring days ahead of us! Embrace spring, my friend!

A Word About Seasonal Decorating

Every season has a beginning, middle, and end. So does seasonal decorating. Here’s how I break it down…

Each season starts with a gentle introduction of its decor, typically overlapping with the tail end of the preceding one. Surprisingly, this early decorating phase often aligns with our anticipation for change, prompting us to start decorating a tad earlier.

Following this, the momentum of seasonal decorating peaks in the middle phase, well before the official midpoint on the calendar. This timing, typically several weeks prior, marks the height of seasonal decoration fervor.

Finally, as the current season winds down, we gradually transition into the next, adapting our decor accordingly to seamlessly blend with the evolving atmosphere.

One of the nicest and easiest ways to decorate for any season is to follow the waxing and waning of the season and decorate it accordingly. The Lazy Girl Guide To Decorating Your Home shows you how to do this step-by-step.

When Is The Right Time To Take Down Easter Decor

Spring Decorating After Easter (2)

Determining when to bid farewell to your Easter decorations is less about following a strict timetable and more about listening to your own seasonal rhythms. Personally, I have a soft spot for my two dashing rabbit figurines, and I look forward to displaying them every spring. However, as soon as Easter Sunday is over, I find myself ready to tuck them away alongside my Easter basket and other favorite Easter decor.

A Cautionary Tale

When I was dating my husband, we put up a Christmas tree in his apartment together. Christmas came and went, but the tree remained. Valentine’s Day came and went, but the tree was still languishing in his living room. Just before Easter, he put a big cardboard Easter bunny on his front door, but the tree was still inside. Did you know that the dead, dry needles of an evergreen tree fall in a perfect circle around its trunk? It’s really something to see in a wonder-of-nature way! I almost stopped dating him because of the fire hazard he harbored in his apartment.

This is all to say most people know when it’s right to take down their seasonal decorations. But if you are still having trouble deciding, here is a rule of thumb for taking down Easter decorations…

Take down Easter decor sometime during the week after Easter.

Put Away All Bunnies, Chicks, Nests, And Other Easter Decor

Think about putting any seasonal decor that is overtly Easter-ish. Use your own good discretion! You will know what spring decorations to put away and what to keep out.

Here are some things I put away right after Easter…

  • Easter eggs
  • nests
  • bunnies and rabbits
  • Easter garlands
  • chicks
  • Easter baskets
  • pastel colors
  • Easter table decor

And here are spring-inspired things I leave up for a while…

  • blooming branches
  • spring wreaths
  • greenery
  • moss
  • tulips
  • other spring flowers
  • spring potted plants
  • birds

Decorate With Spring Organics After Easter

Decorating with organic elements after Easter is a wonderful way to enjoy the remains of spring. Whether it’s real plants or faux botanicals, they add life and beauty to any room. I personally enjoy using organics and often keep them around until I’m ready to switch to early summer decor.

It’s also the perfect opportunity to exercise a discerning decorating hand. Consider allowing your non-seasonal home decor to reclaim the spotlight, with just subtle touches of spring giving a nod to the season at hand.

After Easter, I like to pare down the abundance of spring decor and decorate with less. It feels good to “let my home breathe” a bit.

Decorate With Spring Inspired Pillows And Other Textiles

It’s time to switch out any throw pillows that have overt Easter designs or motifs. If a pillow’s design has bunnies and eggs, it’s best to retire it until next year’s Easter season.

I’m bidding farewell to the charming hare pillow that has been a staple this spring. It’s time to give another pillow a chance to shine. However, the pillows I’ve placed on the spindle chairs are versatile enough to last through the summer months.

After Easter Transitioning

Now is the perfect time to transition from late spring to early summer with pillows that project a fresh seasonal feel. Opt for pillows made of cotton, linen, or a lightweight woven fabric that adds visual airiness to your space.

Remember to extend your lightening-up mission to the bedrooms! It’s time to infuse your pillows and bedding with some airy ambiance. The bedding in our master bedroom will carry us through the summer.

Spring Decorating After Easter (9)

Let’s not underestimate the impact of pillows when it comes to decorating for any season! They hold a unique power to transform the look and feel of a space, adding seasonal comfort and style that makes a house feel like a home.

Spring Decorating After Easter (10)

Lighten up is the buzzword for this time of year! Think about adding lighter-colored accents and lighter-feeling accessories. The weather is getting warmer, so now is the time to use natural materials and textures.

Add a simple jute table runner to your dining room table. If you have an accent rug, think about replacing it with a sisal or jute rug. These types of rugs are inexpensive and add a lighter, attractive ambiance to a room!

Twigs, And Spring Branches

While you are putting your Easter decorations away, keep out a few of your best, fool-the-eye blooming branches to display in well-chosen places around your home. Like an urn of cherry blossom branches on a coffee table or buffet. They will make a lovely late spring focal point until you are ready to replace them with early summer accents.

Use Tulips Year Round

Spring Decorating After Easter (12)

While tulips may be synonymous with spring, there’s no need to limit their beauty to just one season. These versatile flowers come in a variety of colors and can be enjoyed year-round. Whether displayed in a simple vase on your kitchen counter or incorporated into a larger floral arrangement, tulips bring a timeless elegance to any space.

Use them to infuse your home with a sense of grace and sophistication all year long.

Shop Your Home

Spring Decorating After Easter (13)

Before rushing out to purchase new decor, take a moment to explore what you already have. Often, the best way to breathe new life into your space after Easter is by repurposing existing decor in unexpected ways. Use tulips in interesting vases you already own, and add moss to a wide, shallow bowl. By shopping your own home, you not only save money but also rediscover the beauty and potential of the items you already own.

When Easter is over and it’s not time to decorate for summer, think about lightening up your decor and textiles. Take down all overtly Eastery items but keep using flowers such as tulips and blooming branches until you are ready to decorate for summer.

It’s easy to repurpose Easter decor an use it to decorate after Easter. Remove all items like nests, chicks, bunnies and other decor that is strictly for Easter and use the rest.
