Today I’m excited to share how to create a cozy Fall home by bringing the beauty of autumn indoors with simple and cheap natural fall decor.

I’m so excited about the Fall decor in our living room this year.

But not because of how pretty I find it.

I’m excited because of the intentionality that I used when I decided how to decorate our living room for fall.

But before we get into our living room specifics I thought I’d answer a few questions about adding natural autumn decorations to your home.

How do you decorate for fall naturally?

  • add acorns/pinecones and leaves to a bowl
  • put wildflowers/dried flowers in a vase
  • use dried leaves for a wreath
  • beeswax candles
  • simmer pot to complete the fall ambiance
  • branches in a vase
  • fall landscape artwork
  • earth tones for pillow covers
  • earth tones for tea towels
  • add seasonal produce to a bowl on the counter

Now with all these ideas I will admit there are two camps of people.

One camp would prefer to use faux items.

They would claim it’s better because it’s a lot less messy, and once you buy it you have it forever.

The other camp is all about real natural fall decor.

This camp would claim it’s a budget-friendly fall decor option and you don’t need storage space.

I definitely lean more toward real natural fall decor, but I absolutely use faux stuff.

So in my opinion the best way to decorate for fall naturally is to mix faux and real when recreating all of these ideas.

Then you get the best of both worlds.

How can I decorate for fall without spending money?

  • foraging for items outside
  • growing your own pumpkins/squash/gourds
  • use last years decor in a new way
  • DIY fall decor (sweater pumpkins, fabric pumpkins, air dry clay pumpkins/leaves)
  • less is more

Over on YouTube you can watch me and the girls decorate the living room and do a little bit of Fall homemaking.

Natural Fall Decor Ideas

Okay, now lets jump into our living room this year!

Fall Wildflowers for Natural Fall Decor

I usually save the best for last, but I’m not doing that this time.

I’m too excited.

Last week I shared my dining room decorated for Fall and told you at the end of that post that I was surprised by a beautiful reminder on the dining room table.

  1. The bowl full of scripture; to remember He needs to be at the center of everything I do.
  2. The wildflower my daughters picked for me; to remember the little moments that will have a lasting ripple effect.
  3. A broken candlestick holder; to remember that life isn’t perfect, but our perspective can help us find the beauty.

I decided to take that from the dining room and put it in the living room.

So the living room is OVERFLOWING with these wildflowers.

At first when I finished my oldest daughter told me it felt more like Spring than Fall, so I decided to pour the water out of the vases and let the flowers dry.

But I think that it looked beautiful either way.

If you want to see what it looked like before I poured out the water you can watch the YouTube video.

They were still fresh for that.

Branches & Leaves for Natural Fall Decor

Most years I add entire branches with leaves.

But this year because I wanted the wildflowers to be the focus I just added a few dried leaves to the bowl on the coffee table.

A bowl full of natural fall decor is such an easy way to add that cozy fall feeling.

It’s also fun with kids!

The girls helped me gather all the things and then they helped me put them in the bowl too.

Pumpkins

I added faux pumpkins to the end table and the coffee table.

But I did put some real pumpkins on the entryway table and near the fireplace.

(Completely random: While editing these pictures I was reminded of how much I love our new fireplace!!)

I also have to tell you…last week I said that I was trying to wait to start eating the pumpkins.

I gave in haha!

We’ve had pumpkin sourdough muffins and a maple pumpkin walnut dish.

I’m also planning on roasting another pumpkin to make pumpkin sourdough cinnamon rolls this weekend.

This is when it’s good to have a mixture of faux and real because our real pumpkins are dwindling haha!

Earth Toned Pillow Covers for Natural Fall Decor

I bought a couple of new pillow covers in August on super sale.

They were 70% off!!

I just checked and she is still running that sale!

So if you’re looking for some new pillow covers for Fall (or Christmas) here is the link to her Etsy shop.

Not that it matters, but this lady has no idea I exist.

I just love her pillow covers and buy them from her at this time of year when she runs this sale.

I talk a bit more about earth-tone colors in this post here if you are interested.

Earth Toned Blankets for Natural Fall Decor

Now, I will say that an earth toned blanket is great.

But if that isn’t your color scheme, then I would suggest a nice knit or crocheted blanket.

Something that is cozy and has a lot of texture.

They look great and they are great for using as the weather starts to transition from warm to cold.

Pinecones/Acorns etc.

The girls like to go collect all these things for me while they are outside playing.

It’s always so fun when they come in with arm loads for me.

If you want to keep all of the nuts you collect off the ground they recommend you roast them.

This kills any bugs that may be hiding inside of them.

So when you store them you’re not storing bugs that are going to cause the acorns or whatever you pick to rot in storage.

*BONUS TIP*

I’m not a huge fan of the shape of the scented pine cones, but they are great to tuck inside of a vase or basket to add a nice cinnamon or maple smell.

Dried Fall Accessories (Gourds/Florals)

I can’t remember if I shared this on the blog or over on YouTube, but I finally found an apple gourd.

I’ve been wanting one and was so excited to find two this weekend.

AND GUESS WHAT?!

They were only $2.50/gourd!

I wasn’t unhappy with that price.

Anyway, gourd and dried florals are a great way to add natural fall decor to your home.

Beeswax Candles

I finally bought a beeswax candle.

I’ve burned it and here is my verdict.

It’s great!

I love the candle and I love the smell.

But, I don’t like the price.

I paid $20 for a relatively small candle.

I think I’m going to try my hand at doing a DIY beeswax candle soon to see if I can get that beautiful and clean burn but for less money.

Less is More – Don’t be afraid to use less

When decorating for fall naturally don’t be afraid to use less.

Less is more in so many ways.

I usually decorate and then when I step back I find one or two things to take down.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
