Our team are nutrition experts, made up of nutritionists, dietitians, data and content moderators utilizing multiple sources to curate and update the databases of generic foods, branded, supermarket and restaurant products and their associated servings and nutritional information. These include official local and national government publications and reference materials, manufacturer/brand/restaurant submitted products via FatSecret Brand Tools, publicly available information and verified user contributed data.
Thousands of updates to datasets occur daily with our team utilizing systematic processes for reviewing and verifying information on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis with a view to keeping the databases as up to date, accurate and relevant as possible. Yes, full 3-legged OAuth enables you to provide your application to users who are members of FatSecret (who are using one of our websites or our mobile app). This facility allows users to approve your application to act on their behalf without sharing their FatSecret account credentials with you. Essentially FatSecret members can consent to share their data with your application. You can use this mechanism to attain a valid access token for a profile that is directly linked to a user account on FatSecret (instead of creating your own profiles for users), so you can build whatever applications and services you wish for existing FatSecret members.

The FatSecret Platform API provides access to a large number of data points on each food item including high quality food images (available as .png files in 3 sizes), allergen information across 10 allergens (Egg, Fish, Gluten, Lactose, Milk, Nuts, Peanuts, Sesame, Shellfish, Soy) as well as dietary preferences to identify whether a food is vegan or vegetarian.
These capabilities are currently available for all generic foods globally and will be added for branded foods over time.
