Thanks, that helped--the tool bar menu is now back!
However, the tabs have disappeared, and when I do "New Design" nothing happens.
And there's no caret that lets me make the toolbar menu disappear again, so I don't know how it got gone in the first place.
What is the row with the tabs and the caret called? I don't see a way to make it reappear, and it's kind of essential.
The File item in the Tool Bar Menu now does offer "New Design from File" again, but the File menu item does not (and that was all I had, when the Tool Bar was absent).
Seems to me the Tool Bar Menu ought to be listed among the controllable items under the View menu--the Tool Bar is there, but the Tool Bar Menu is independent of that setting.
Reset to Default Layout did bring the tabs back, and the caret for the tool bar menu is in that region!
So, I can now function again, even open STEP files directly! And now I know that turns off the Time Line, but I am also able to get it back.
I experimented and discovered the superior display I saw in Inventor Fusion (2 years old) was just because of its choice of materials and view options--it had aluminum with edges, and I had been set for translucent plastic without edges.
It isso nice to have everything functioning again! I'll probably never know what key I hit that made the tool bar menu disappear.
I do think the Reset to Default Layout menu item ought to make the tool bar menu reappear along with the tool bar! And it should be possible to bring the tabs back without such a drastic command.
