Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

It’s Monday, which means we have a new week of Jeopardy! episodes! Today’s matchup features returning 3-day champion Weckiai Rannila, with Matthew Smith and Carrie Klaus as your challengers.

Additionally, Episode 2 of Jeopardy! Masters airs tonight at 8:00 (7:00 Central) on ABC (and CTV2 in Canada). (Remember, this is a different channel than normal Jeopardy! for 60% of U.S. households)

Correct response: What is the Swiss Guard?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The Swiss Guard is best known today as an armed forces unit who protects Vatican City and the Pope. It is called the Swiss Guard as it traditionally consisted of 150 to 200 Swiss mercenaries. Today, the unit consists of 135. Their colors match the House of Medici as they were introduced during the papal reign of Leo X, the first Medici pope.

I was actually surprised to see that this was only the third time that the Swiss Guard has come up in Final Jeopardy; I had the idea that they were a more-asked-about group. Interesting!

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Weckiai $19,600 Matthew $13,200 Carrie $10,600)

Weckiai: Standard cover bet over Matthew is $6,801. (Actual bet: $6,801)

Matthew: You can’t both cover Carrie and win the Double Stumper. If you think Carrie will bet big, go all in. If you think she’ll bet small, bet no more than $400. (Actual bet: $13,200)

Carrie: I would go all in here to force Matthew to cover. (Actual bet: $9,000)
