A Brief History Of The co*cktail

The first time the word ‘co*cktail’ was recorded was in London in the Morning Post on 20th March 1798. It mentions a drink described as a co*cktail.

The second mention was in the USA in a diary that was found and subsequently published in the Famer’s Cabinet on 28th April 1803 in New Hampshire. It is a highly amusing story. A real game-changer was the production of ice In the early 1800s.

In the 1960s, during prohibition, homemade liquor, which tasted pretty nasty, was flavored with honey and juices to mask the taste.

In 1962 Jerry Thomas, considered the father of mixology in America, created a bartenders guide titled “How to Mix Drinks” and in it, he shared 10 of his co*cktail recipes.

In 2013 freelance writerJace Shoemaker-Galloway who specialized in writing about various holidays decided to make up a few of her own; hence National co*cktail Day is celebrated on March 24th each year. She was a big fan of the co*cktail, so thank you, Jace.
