The difference between this style and the ones mentioned is that it is typically softer. It focuses on being chic and cosmopolitan, but also comfortable. You’ll still see it in lofts and modern apartments, but with more plush decor.

What’s important to remember when designing an urban modern home?
Make it comfortable & soft
Compared to industrial interior design, urban modern design is less severe. Industrial homes use dark accents and showcase building materials, while urban modern homes will have soft furniture, plush rugs and comfortable seating. You can bring in a rug made of natural materials, big sofas, warm colored pillows and throw blankets.
Contrasting materials
Although softness is super important in urban modern homes, adding contrasting materials will bring in the urban and modern elements. Metal legs on chairs add a nice modern touch. And metallics will totally elevate your space. Think of adding mirrors, photos and paintings with gold or bronze frames. If everything is too soft, you may not get the urban modern look and feel that you desire, but adding contrasting materials will definitely do the trick.
Use scale smartly
Playing with scale by juxtaposing large items with smaller ones will create interesting aesthetics in your urban modern decor. Contrasts will be found in scale rather than in contrasting tones and patterns. Hang petite lighting fixtures above an oversized couch or put a large modern vase next to a small plant.
