Roasted Turkey Breast Recipe

Roasted Turkey Breast makes a great recipe for Thanksgiving dinner for two to four people. It is also really easy to make for any time when you’re craving home-cooked turkey. This Roasted Turkey Breast recipe is fantastic to enjoy warm or chill it to use for amazing sandwich deli meat.

This turkey breast comes out flavorful and moist thanks to the simple homemade brine that is made with water, salt, honey, and spices. Marinating the breast for 8 to 12 hours prior to roasting makes the lean turkey meat extremely moist and flavorful inside. So, don’t skip it! After the marinating time is done coat the breast with seasonings and whole-grain Dijon mustard and roast it in the oven.

How to Roast Turkey Breast Boneless and Keep it Moist

Roast turkey breasts in the oven on high heat for 25 – 30 minutes. Then cover the baking dish with foil, turn off the oven and let the turkey rest in the hot oven for at least 90 minutes and up to it is completely cooled. The longer it sits in the oven the juicier it will be. Then take the breast out of the oven and serve warm or chill it in the fridge for deli turkey breast (see the notes below how to serve it). This roasting method helps the breast keep its moisture and prevents it from overcooking and drying out.

How to Serve Roasted Turkey Breast

This Roasted Turkey Breast can be served warm for delicious dinner, but it also creates the perfect homemade deli meat made with natural ingredients.

For Turkey Breast Dinner

Slice the warm turkey breast against the grain into thick slices and serve with your favorite sides and gravy. Here are my favorite ideas that go well with Roasted Turkey Breast:

Healthy Mashed Potatoes

Simply Roasted Vegetables

Grilled Asparagus

Roasted Sweet Potato with Parmesan

Healthy Caesar Salad with homemade Caesar Dressing

Tomato Salad

For Turkey Breast Deli Meat

Thinly slice the breast after it’s completely cooled in the oven and then chilled in the refrigerator. But no one forbid you to try it after you take it out from the oven! I often slice one part of the breast when it’s still warm to serve for dinner and the other part I leave unsliced to chill it for deli meat. Here are some delicious ways to enjoy deli turkey with:

Healthy Whole Wheat Bagels

Easy Cheese Ball

Healthy Homemade Ketchup

      FAQs

What is the secret to a moist turkey? ›

When your turkey is ready to go in the oven, place it upside-down in the oven tray first. Placing the turkey, breast side down, on a roasting rack for the first hour or so of roasting essentially allows it to baste itself. Any marks left by the rack will disappear once you flip the turkey over and finish roasting it.

How do you keep turkey breasts from drying out? ›

Start in a hot heated oven at 450 degrees F, then lower the heat to 350 degrees F just before you put the turkey in the oven. The initial high heat will help brown the skin, then the lower heat will help cook the turkey breast on the inside without drying it out.

Should I cook my turkey breast covered or uncovered? ›

To achieve a perfectly golden, juicy turkey, let the bird spend time both covered and uncovered in the oven. We recommend covering your bird for most of the cooking time to prevent it from drying out; then, during the last 30 minutes or so of cooking, remove the cover so the skin crisps in the hot oven.

What temperature do you cook a juicy turkey breast? ›

In general, you'll want to cook a bone-in turkey breast for about 20 minutes per pound at 350 degrees F (177 degrees C), or until it reaches a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).

What does putting butter under the skin of a turkey do? ›

Impart rich flavor and add moisture to your Thanksgiving turkey by adding a layer of butter under the skin before roasting. Learn how to do this simple (but genius) technique for a delicious Thanksgiving turkey.

What liquid do you add to turkey? ›

Add about 1/2 inch of liquid (water or stock) to the roasting pan. This will keep the oven moist and the turkey juicy.

What is the best way to season a turkey? ›

Stick with salt and pepper, put herbs like rosemary, thyme, and sage to work, or take spicy Cajun seasoning for a spin for some kick. Whatever blend you choose, spread it all over the turkey—on top, underneath, between the body and wings and legs, under the skin, and even in the cavity of the bird.

What do you soak a turkey in before cooking? ›

In its most basic form, the brine is salt and water—but many cooks don't stop there. Aromatics will add flavor and dimension to the cooked turkey; classic vegetables, like carrots and celery, your favorite herbs, like fresh garlic, and citrus fruits, such as lemon and orange, are all good additions.

How do you get the best flavor out of a turkey? ›

Fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, and sage along with a half lemon go a long way to add flavor, and stuffing it into the bird takes almost no time at all. (While you're at it, season the cavity with a good amount of salt and pepper.) Brining is an essential step to ensure a juicy bird.
